Default Failure to Meet Deadline for Expired Registration Fix-It Ticket

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: California

I got a fix-it ticket a while ago for expired registration. The due date or the fine was 3/11. It is now 6/11. What should I expect when I go to the station next week to pay?

t is likely hat your driver's license is or will be suspended. It is possible, though unlikely, that a warrant will have been issued for your arrest. It is also possible that the citation will have been turned over to collections for payment in addition to other penalties.

It is the court you need to work this out with - and the DMV, not the police department. They have nothing to do with the matter at this point.

I went to the Alameda County Court's web site and was able to pay the $288 fine w/late fees. The status of my citation now says "Paid". But according to the citing officer and a few online sources I am required to have a police officer sign a certain form stating that I fixed the problem that I was originally cited for. Is that still the case?

It is a correctable violation, but if you paid the fines in full I don't see any reason for an officer to sign the citation indicating ift has been fixed unless the citation is still outstanding in some way.

    Has the registration been cleared?

No I haven't been to the DMV yet to pay reg. My car wouldn't pass smog until last week so I have to bring proof of smog to the DMV before they'll let me register the vehicle. I was planning on going to the DMV Monday to pay and get my tags, then I was going to go to the Police station to have them sign the citation. I don't know if that is necessary though.

If the citation has been paid that means the case has been closed and it would do you no good at this point to get the citation signed off...

the one thing that I would be curious about though is the status of your driver's license. You did mention that you paid the fine + a late fee and there is a slight chance that a hold was placed on your license as a result. You need to either contact the court and inquire about the status of your case to see if a hold was placed on your DL or contact the DMV and they maybe able to provide you with the same info.

In the meantime, Monday is still a few days away and I would suggest that you not drive (especially since your car has no tags) until you complete your registration requirements and verify the status of your license.

OK thanks. So if all goes well, I'll get my car smogged, show proof to the DMV and pay for registration, verify license status and...end of story?

If the citation has been paid and that court case is "closed", then yeah, ^that^ pretty much is the end of this story.

Of course that is not to leave out the part about receiving new registration tabs and sticking them on your rear plate

So my car passed smog today with flying colors and I got my tags from the DMV with no problems. Thanks for the help!
