Can You Legally Use Two Social Security Numbers

I know someone who changed their last name because their father wasn't the real father.So they got a new last name and a new social security number.they continued to use both the old number and the new number to apply for loans.how serious of a crime is this?

It's not easy to get a second social security number - there are very few (and very specific) circumstances in which this can happen, and a name-change/paternity change simply doesn't qualify.

Regardless, anyone who uses any social security number for fraudulent purposes - for example taking out a loan with no intention of repaying that loan - can be subject to criminal and civil charges.

Well that's what I heard them bragging about,saying "this is how I pay my bills,with the old ssn loans "

Ok,I found out that they changed their last name not the ssn.But since the name change they have still applied for credit with the old last name and the new last name

Changing a name, and changing an SSN, are two entirely different scenarios. Why do you think this is a crime?
