    Default Auto Insurance

Does liability insurance also protects you as well if you caused the accident?

when you say "protects you" do you mean; does it pay the person you hit? If so, yes, that is what liability insurance is. Of course all the insurance will pay is up to the policy limits. If the damages exceed that, the liability fall on you to pay out of pocket.
I am not an attorney and any advice is not to be construed as legal advice. You might even want to ignore my advice. Actually, there are plenty of real attorneys that you might want to ignore as well.
