Patenting An Invention Derived From Other Patents

Hello,

I currently reside in Ontario, Canada, but i have a broad question about a patent (so its not state/country specific).

If there are already two existing patents, and I want to combine the two in order to create a new safety measure, what kind of pending should I apply for? patent, trademark, industrial design, or Integrated Circuit Topographies?

Both the patents I am using for this safety measure are electornically operated.

That's your first mistake. Patent laws are, in fact, country specific. United States Federal law may, in fact, be different than Canadian law on the same subject.
