Sued for hospital bill

I am being sued by a lawyer for a hospital debt. I talked to the hospital and they said they would not get any of the money I paid the lawyer. I do not have a signed agreement with this lawyer that I will be responsible for this bill, but i do with the hospital. Does he have a legal right to sue me. I have asked him to provide me with this but he has not, instead I got a notice to apprear in court from him. What are my legal rights.

It is difficult to tell what is happening from your description. It sounds like the hospital referred the debt out to a collection agency, which has filed suit against you.
