My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
It is my first post here and I come seeking advice and guidance. Back in October 2009, I was terminated from my job which I didn't believe was fair. I filed for unemployment benefits and was approved. Once approved, I received about 2 checks from EDD before ending my benefits after finding a new job. On the claim form, I even let EDD know that I found a new job and was requesting them to stop my benefits. It's been almost 2 years since I worked for this employer who terminated me. Today, I receive a notice in the mail from EDD mentioning that my former employer has appealed my benefits.
My question to you all is whether or not I should be worried about this letter. I feel as if this letter should have been sent in October 2009, not April 2011. Plus, I've only received 2 unemployment checks before discontinuing my benefits. Am I obliged to respond or try to get ahold of an EDD agent? It's Saturday and their offices are closed until Monday. I'm just afraid that if I don't do anything, they are going to make me pay them back for the benefits I received. However, does anyone have any information regarding how that works? It's been a year and a half since I last received benefits. This has been stressing me out all day, any help or guidance would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
