Default Difficulty Renewing Insurance License After Termination

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Indiana
The insurance company I used to work for terminated my contract in 2009. A month later they reported to the department of insurance that the termination was "for cause". Now I am having problems renewin my insurance license. I did nothing wrong. They changed the reason of my termination based on another agent's statement a month after I left...without proof. What can I do to get the insurance company to change the reason of my termination so I may renew my insurance license? What type of lawyer do I need? Thanks.

Is their allegation true or untrue?

It's untrue. It is her word versus mine. I am not sure if she is even an agent there still or not. The fact that they did this a month after I left isn't a coincidence. There is a zero tolerance for something like that, so they used me (already being gone) to blame it on to save her. Please help! I was there almost 7 years and she was only about 6 months.

There's a whole lot we don't know here - why you were initially fired, why the co-worker made additional allegations about you, why your former employer found her allegations credible and apparently rejected your version of events, why they went through the trouble of changing their report of the reason for your termination. I'm not asking you to share that much detail - but I want you to understand why the answers we can provide with our limited knowledge will be of limited use.

The first step (which I assume you've already taken) is to simply contact your former employer and ask them to correct the information in their report. You can try that yourself or you can do so with the help of a lawyer. Given that the primary issue is licensure, you would likely be best served by working with a lawyer who handles professional license issues and appeals - they can be tricky to find, but there tend to be a number of them in each state. You can try the state or county bar's referral service.

She said I told her to answer a question "no" that should have been "yes" and send it to the home office. So, she is saying I told her to lie on the application. They never asked me about it. They just went off her information. I didn't even find out the reason that my contract was terminated until almost a year later.
