Default Accident at a Flashing Red Light

My question involves a traffic accident in the State of: ohio. Today I was involved in a car accident. Thank goodness no injuries to anyone! I stopped at a flashing red light. I then proceeded to turn left. I saw a blue car approaching and as i turned i noticed that the car wasn't slowing down and i was hit in the back side.(same side as drivers side on the back door). My air bags deploided and i was a little shakened up but no injuries. My confusion is that I thought a flashing red light was the same as a stop sign, and that the other car was supppose to stop as well. Am i at fault?

what was the other driver presented with as far as traffic control devices go? were you in a turn lane?
I am not an attorney and any advice is not to be construed as legal advice. You might even want to ignore my advice. Actually, there are plenty of real attorneys that you might want to ignore as well.

Your direction of travel had a flashing red light. What did the cross traffic have? It is not unheard of for one direction to have a flashing red and for cross traffic to have a flashing yellow. That means they proceed with caution and you have to stop for cross traffic. Did you see the blue car coming and know you could clear the intersection or were you pinning your hopes on them stopping? If you were turning across traffic, normally you must yield to any on-coming traffic.

I was thinking they had to stop upon their approach and since I had already stopped I had the right away. How are you to know what the other light is displaying in this type of situation? Or is that just rule of thumb at flashing red lights.

if you can't answer the question, there is no way to provide you with an answer. ROW will rest on what device they were presented with.
