Can a Health Insurance Require You to Have Comp Insurance

My question involves insurance law for the state of: Michigan
long story short, I injured my knee at home 3 months ago and require surgery to repair. the specialist made a mistake at stated to the insurance company that the injury happened at work. He sent over corrected paperwork but the insurance company now is going to require me to get workmans comp on myself in order to get the surgery I need. I own a small business and am not required to have comp on myself. Can the insurance company require me do do this? Any imput would be beneficial.

The insurance company cannot force you to have workers comp insurance.

However, they also cannot be forced to pay a work-related claim if that is not covered under the policy. It is standard operating procedure, when it has been reported to them as a work-related injury, for them to require a denial by the workers comp insurance before they will pay. This remains true even if it was stated to be work-related in error, since unless they apply the policy consistantly they would be leaving themselves open to fraudulent claims.

And they cannot be forced to pay a claim unless their policies are followed.

You say "worker's comp on yourself". Are you self-employed?
