Hi
If a child is receiving survivors benefits, (eligible due to an acquiescence ruling in a certain state), will child lose survivor benefits if family relocates to a different state?
I'm thinking no as Social Security is federal?
thank you.

If we're talking Social Security survivor benefits, yes, that's a federal benefit. Also, an Acquiescence Ruling arises from a federal appellate court decision, not a state court decision. It's not a state law issue.
Thank you.
So since it is federal they cannot take benefits away for a move to another state, is that correct?
I should have been more clear; the acquiescence ruling is from the 9th district court and covers all states under jurisdiction, I happen to live in one of those states as well as child's father was domiciled in same state.
thank you.
If you're telling us that the acquiescence ruling only applies in a specific federal circuit and you're moving out of the circuit, I make you no promises. As you know, you didn't follow the instruction to identify the state and you haven't identified the case at issue.

The Social Security forum does not prompt a person posting to provide a state like many of the other forums do.
