Aggressor in Bar Fight Went to the Hospital and Now Asks for the Hospital Bills

My question involves injury or loss that occurred in the state of: Illinois.

It was my birthday, April first when my friends and I were at the bar smoking outside. All of the sudden, when my friend was pushed (accidentally I presume), he swore and when the people who pushed him came back giving verbal threats such as how he wants to hit him, my other friend came up and the guy who was saying he wanted to hit punched my friend in the face, giving him a black eye.

After that, he was pushed away and I was where he was pushed away. He tried hitting me but I did not get hit as I dodged it. And then I punched him and knocked him out. When he was knocked out, my friends came around him and maybe kicked him.

After that, we left the place. However, I found out his phone number and called him to make things better. But he said that since I was the one that hit him, I should pay for his medical bills estimated around $1,500. He then said he was going to take it to the court. He also said he was recording the call (although we were speaking in Korean). I am currently 21 and he is 19, about to turn 20 on the 15th. However, we were both drunk. He is currently an international student with Korean citizenship. On the other hand, I am a US citizen.

This fight happened in Chicago area outside of a bar. There were 6 of us and 2 of them but they started the fight and 3 out of 6 people did not fight and tried to stop the fight. My friends ended up with minor injuries such as black eye, busted lips, and sprained ankle. What can I do with this situation?

Although I did not get hit, he was swinging at me. Please help me.

And then your friends basically jumped in and kicked on the guy? WHILE HE WAS KNOCKED OUT?

Frankly you're lucky you're not all in jail.

Yes, he may have been the initial aggressor - but you had a choice, and you chose unwisely.

Basically, he came up swinging at me too when I came near him. He was under the influence of alcohol although he is underage.

It's solved since he does not want to be charged with underage drinking, starting the fight, and getting deported. I guess I'm lucky.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. The guy was punching at him.

And admit fault so the guy can come back with a complaint of neck injuries?

IMHO the first and only unwise choice was to be out on the town "drinking."
