My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California
Hi,
I live in San Diego, I rented an apartment with someone and we signed a year lease. I came home The other day only to find out she's moved out, we still have 8 more months till our lease is up. Both our names are on the lease, our rent is 1195 total but ever since we've moved in we have split the rent in half and have always payed it separately. I went to talk to my landlord yesterday and she says my roommate has complained about me a few times but didn't know she had moved out. She told me she knows I can't afford the rent on my own, but if she didn't get the full amount at the beginning of the month she would be forced to evict me. I have less than a week to find a new roommate. My question is does she have the right to evict me? It's not my fault really that my roommate bailed on the lease early and if I would have applied for the place on my own, I would have never got it because I can't afford it. So is it my responsibility to come up with my roommates other half? Also my roommate hasn't paid any of her share of the bills, they're under my name. What can I do about that? Please help!
