    Default Weekly Giveaway Drawing Rules

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: California

I run a coupon website that also has a facebook fan page. I will be giving away one free oil change per week to those that register on my coupon site or via Facebook (I will comply with the Facebook terms and conditions of course).

Here is my question: Do I have to have users register for each weekly giveaway? Or can I just give away a free oil change to anyone in my database after they register once. Is there an issue with ongoing giveaways to subscribers where an action for each weekly giveaway is not required and only registering once is required? Do I have to set a start and end date for the weekly giveaways?

Also, in the beginning I will give away an oil change per day for 8 days straight. Does that pose the same issue?

Second questions: These oil changes will ONLY be redeemable at local shops that are on my website in Orange County, CA. What are the restrictions I can set up? Residents of Southern California only? (Defined of course) or California Residents only? or do I have to include the whole US? Someone in Alabama is not going to have much use for a free oil change in Orange County.

Third and final question: is the restriction that it is only redeemable at a auto repair shop on my website an issue? I don't think it is, but just wanted to check.

I don't want to fall on the wrong side of the laws so I appreciate any help!

Note: there will be no purchase necessary, just being a fan of my page and entering their full name, email address and City they live in.

you determine the rules. If you want it to be only new subscribers since the last drawing, you can. If you simply make the requirement they be a subscriber, you can. Just make the rules clear to avoid confusion.

Wow! Thanks for the quick answer. I wasn't expecting to see an answer yet.

Can my rules also restrict the winners to Southern California, defined as Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego Counties? Or do I need to make it all of CA? or US?

    Thanks for the quick help!

you can make the offer to just your next door neighbor if you want. The biggest thing is to make the rules clear, unambiguous, and readily available.

I may be a little late for this post, but I'll chime in anyway.

You may also want to put in a clause stating 'up to 5 quarts of conventional motor oil and an oil filter'.

If you don't, you just may find yourself shelling out over $100 to change the oil in someone's Porsche 911 Turbo or any other car that takes 9 quarts of synthetic oil.

    Older 911's take 21 quarts
    Audi A8 W12 quattro 13.2 quarts
    Ferrari Enzo 14 quarts
    7.4 Liter Deisel F-350 15 qaurts
    Corvette LS7 LS7 8.0 quarts
    Jaguar 5.3L 12 quarts
