Improper Lane Usage

I'm 16 and I have had my license for 6 months, with no previous traffic violations of any kind. Last night I was following my GPS when I realized that I was in an exit only lane and needed to change lanes. I put on my signal, and as I was doing my final over the shoulder check, I drifted into the lane before I realized that there was someone in my blind spot, who turned out to be a policeman. I was pulled over and given a $124 ticket for improper lane usage. Should I pay the $124, or request a hearing to possibly reduce the fine and make sure my insurance doesn't increase because of it? Thanks!
