Question How Will Being a 100% CT Veteran Affect SSI Payments

I have been drawing SSI for about a year now, when I applied for SSI I sent them my Award letter from the VA of 70% which I also got monthly compensation for. I have now been awarded 100% complete and total through the VA and my compensation from them also increased. What do I need to do and will this affect my SSI income? My wife does work and has a small side business but after reading some of these forums I am confused. Can I not have over 2,000 dollars in the savings account. I am housebound due to injuries sustained in war but she makes ok money. Any help or advice?

VA compensation does reduce SSI benefits but not Social Security Disability benefits (SSDI). So since you state that you are now receiving an increase in your VA benefits and you are on SSI, you must report the income increase to SSI.

Your wife's earnings also affect SSI benefits.

Now, if you are getting SSDI, there are totally different answers.

What is the title on your award letter? Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability? Basic difference: One program (SSI) is welfare. One (SSDI) is not.
