    Default Registering a stolen boat

I might be getting a free boat from a friend whom in 1985 stole it in new york state. I live in florida and obviously there is no paperwork for this boat. Would I be able to get a title and register this boat here in florida? Thanks

    My response:

Speaking only for myself, I'm not going to help you or your friend. As far as I'm concerned, you're both criminals.

I doubt that you can register the stolen boat, and for what should be obvious reasons am not going to invest any time in trying to find out. There probably are forums which help people engage in criminal acts, but this isn't one of them.

It appears as though you've broken no law...YET. If I were you, I'd seriously reconsider getting involved in such a transaction. Do the right thing. (You'd probably do well to stay away from that friend, too.) I hope you make the right decision and my guess is that you will.

The moment you receive the stolen boat you will be guilty of a felony.

    Don't do it.
