Default Slip and Fall at Work, Having Trouble Over Worker's Comp Claim

My question involves workers compensation law for the state of: Nebraska

Here is my story: On Sat., Feb. 26 at approx. 6:30 PM I slipped on the ice at work and twisted my knee and struck my shoulder on the concrete. At the time it didn't seem like a major fall but when I got home at about 9 PM I e-mailed my employer to let them know that I had fallen and where. I stated that I would give it a few days to see how it feels. After a few nights of restless sleep because of both my swollen knee and shoulder problem I contacted my employer to let them know I would be seeking medical treatment. I was informed that I didn't notify them immediately when the accident happened and that it wasn't in writing signed by me so they couldn't file a claim. Seemed odd especially when they said they would pay my office visit and a week's wages if I needed time off out of their pocket. I worked the following week but it wasn't much fun and when I called again today to tell them about seeking medical help I was told that in addition to the other mentioned reasons for not filing a First Report of Injury that since I worked the week there is no claim. My feeling is that they simply have no workers comp insurance. Any advice on what I should do? I don't want to get fired for reporting them.

    Thank you for any help.

By the way, I am a truck driver working for an independent contractor and this happened at one of the post offices in a small town where I pick up mail.

You may contact the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Court by calling either 800-599-5155 or 402-471-6468. A public information specialist will discuss the situation with you and refer you for further assistance when it is appropriate. The specialist will not provide a legal opinion or advice.
