    Default Government Shut Down Will That Delay SSI Checks

    Just read about the shutdown, will it effect SSI checks? My neice needs it to pay rent. If it is delayed can i pay it and she pay me back?

    Theoritically no, it shouldn't affect your SSI benifit checks because they are prossessed via automation. If there are stopped, or suspended then it will be backpaid. Of course that is only if the stoppage occurs.

    Don't read the papers much? The current government speding authorization expires March 4.

    It depends on the length of the shutdown. In the past (and it looks like now) there's enough stuff in the pipeline to keep the checks rolling. However, you'll have a hard time doing anything that takes a human like applications for new benefits or other customer service for the duration.

    Thanks but not one answered if they do shut down can i pay her rent and then she pay back or would that be considered income on her part? Lets just hope that no one is effected if they do shut down.

    If there is a shutdown, there would have to be a startup before anyone could answer this question. And if there is a startup after a shutdown, I think SSA will be way too busy trying to play catchup to worry about a loan you might give.

    How would it be possible for no one to be affected if the government shut down? Employees not showing up to work does mean that work doesn't get done. Everyone who has an appointment scheduled for a date the government shut down would not be taken care of.
