My question involves defamation in the state of: Oregon
So there is the blogger who lives in the same city as me and for whatever reason her and her husband felt that I was offending them because I simply mentioned on Twitter that my blog got more traffic. They then wrote some really insulting posts about how people who market their websites or try to promote their sites are assholes and douches. I tried to comment but they rejected my comment on their blog.... My comment was not abusive or offensive in nature but was simply along the lines of "Maybe you should not judge all marketers as one" anyways I e-mailed the owner of the blog and calmly asked if somehow my being a competitor had offended them and they responded nastily and two weeks later I get a call from a police officer who says "so and so" has reported me for harassing their blog.
I was dumbfounded and asked the officer how I allegedly "harassed" a blog and she said that the complainant indicated I had "clicked on ads on her site to much" I told the officer that I had never clicked on ads on the individuals site and even if I did that I highly doubted that would meet the legal definition of harassment.
This same blogger is still making indirect attacks on me by posting comments trying to mock me without mentioning my name but using phrases and characteristics to describe me.
I'm confused how to proceed since obviously they were able to convince a police officer that clicking on a advertisement on a public blog is a crime. I feel defamation is occuring and the other party is abusing the justice system by filing such a frivilous and false report.
Notably I did file a complaint with a police review commision against the officer who called me because the demeanor she presented herself seemed to be intended to intimidate me. I would hire an attorney and pursue options but obviously that is costly and I cannot afford such is there anything I can due legally to remedy this issue without hiring an attorney or filing a defamation suit?
