Red face Garnished wages for unpaid federal Loans
I need help on this issue.
i have some unpaid student loans from decades ago, they have now issued a judgement and contacted my employer to garnish my income.

I would like more information or any advise/help on how I can take care of this problem. IF they garnish my wages, it will take me years and years to pay this off. IS it better to settle with them and take the amount they settle on to pay off (using another loan from a bank)?
Is it best to then, when settling on an amount, hire an attorney to do so? What rights do I have in this case?

Please advise, Any help will be greatly appreciated.
If anyone knows of a good attorney or knows someone who went through a similar situation, please email me.
Greatly appreciated!

You can pay off the judgment at any time. They do not have to agree to a lower payoff.

If you wish to try to negotiate a lower payoff, you can contact the holder of the judgment and try to negotiate a lesser amount. Or you can have a lawyer do that, if you choose. If you are able to reach an agreement for a lower payoff, "get it in writing".
