Who Should Witness a Lease Signing in NYC

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of New York.

I am about to rent an apartment in a private house and would like to know if it is enough for just me and the landlord to sign the lease, or would someone have to witness it and sign it? Do we need to do it in front of a notary?

I'm a landlord in NY State, I rent out apartments in private houses, and never had a lease witnessed or notarized. I am a NY State notary, and I am not aware of any notary requirements for leases.
