    Default eBay Item Shipped to Wrong Address

    I had a similar issue recently with eBay.

    I just purchased an item nearly a month ago now and during check out the wrong address defaulted, an address I havent used in years on eBay and is a mystery in itself how it was defaulted as the confirmed shipping address considering I've had things shipped to a different address over the years. Anyways, I catch the mistake immediately after the order has been processed and I enform the seller within 10 minutes of the mistake. Long story short, it was delivered to the wrong address and sent back to the seller, the seller said the item was returned due to it being the wrong address in an email conversation with me, and eBay will not refund my money and the seller will not ship it to my current confirmed address unless I pay for shipping again. Suggestions? Legally can eBay decline my refund for an item I never received and the seller said they have back in their possession?

    Ebay doesn't have your money. When you buy something on ebay, you are buying it from the person who listed it. Ebay is just the venue.
    You screwed up, you owe the second shipping. Get real.

    As for the original poster, in fact, most of the information given was completely wrong. Unless the shipper used a online verifiable method of shipping (such as DC with the USPS or one of the express carriers), PAYPAL, when presented with a claim will roll over and refund the buyer's money. If you paid with a credit card, and PAYPAL turns you down, you still have recourse through your credit card company (but need to do that first as PAYPAL will close your account if you chargeback through it without giving them the first chance to deal with the problem).

    eBay's interface for spotting all incidences of an old address is terrible. I had something similar happen after I moved, some time ago, fortunately through a "buy it now" auction. The seller had to cancel my winning 'bid', and then I again purchased the item to be shipped to the proper address; otherwise the transaction would have fallen outside of eBay's policies for the protection of the seller. To have any other policy opens the door to massive fraud - accessing other people's accounts or using stolen credit cards, then diverting items to a different address.

    Unfortunately, simply telling the seller via email, "I used the wrong address," doesn't necessarily mean that the seller will see the feedback before the item is shipped.

    @FlyingDong,

    I have sold many things on eBay, I know how it works quite well. There is a reason why there is a rating system, part of which rates seller communication with the buyer. Before I ship my items I always reference my emails to make sure that there hasnt been a request to change the order, mistakes happen and as a seller it is your responsibility to make sure to minimize them, especially if the buyer does their part to fix it. If a consumer purchased something on a retail website, lack of communication or no communication would not fly, those same standards apply to those who sell on eBay on a small scale or a large scale (eBay stores).

    Also, if you knew anything about eBay you would understand that eBay/PayPal (the same company) are the ones that control whether or not a case receives a refund. They may not have the money in their possession but they do indeed say yay or nay if someone receives the refund or any action on the case. So again, if you knew anything about eBay, you would understand that they declined my appeal for a refund, even though the seller said the item was returned and in their possession. What I was asking, is it legal for them to do that?!?!?!

    So, please Flyingwhateveryourname is, get real and gtfo.

    @ Knowitall

    I agree, and I honestly think that this is eBays fault as the address they shipped to isnt listed on my eBay account but was listed as a secondary confirmed shipping address on my PayPal account, right next to the confirmed address I've use now. I cant tell you how many items Ive purchased on eBay in the past few years, since I changed my address, and it has always defaulted to my current address.
