I'm a Marine from NC. I returned from Iraq last September and found out that my wife of 14 years was tired of being married to a frequently deployed Marine so she found a new man while I was in Iraq. We are attempting to divorce amicably. We separated our credit card debt. I'm nearly debt free after 6 months. We have 2 accounts that are still joint that my wife agreed to maintain, (1) mortgage and (1) MBNA card. My wife agreed to refinance and consolidate the MBNA balance into the new mortgage so I would no longer be tied to these debts. I ran a credit report this week and found that my wife let the MBNA card go 120 days past due and she is nearing 60 days past due on the mortgage. I've been paying $1,270.00 per month in child support which more than covers the mortgage. I contacted MBNA and Suntrust and set up direct payments to these creditors to prevent further damage to the 2 accounts we still share. Now that my wife's credit score is rapidly dropping, she will not be able to qualify for refinancing on her own and she will not be able to consolidate her MBNA with the mortgage. My wife was advised to look into a quick claim deed. I am not familiar with a quick claim deed. I need to get my name removed from our mortgage and I attempted to get my name off of my wife's MBNA account but since my wife got behind MBNA will not release me. I've never been an authorized MBNA card holder/user on this account. When I was mobilized in 2002, I attached my name to my wife's MBNA card in an attemp to get a lower interest rate...oops! Does anyone have any advice that may help?
