Disqualified Quitting for Another Job

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: Wisconsin

I worked for employer X for almost a year when things started to go downhill I decided to look for a new job before quitting that one.

I quickly found work at employer Y making $.75 cents more an hour and having a flat rate commission of 3% vs one that was always up and down that would very on what I sold. Not to mention at employer X the heat was broke making working conditions harder and harder to deal with. It got to the point where I needed a jacket just to stand it.


After accepting my job at employer Y I put in my two weeks at employer X and left on good terms.
Employer Y and I did not work out and I got let go of within only working their for two weeks. I applied for unemployment and was told that benefits were allowed for employer Y and that they were not for X because I quit for a valid personal reason.

My reasons for quitting were
1. .75 cents more an hour
2. Warmer working conditions
3. Better commission guarantee

Why did I get disqualified and is it worth an appeal?

You got disqualified because you left for very valid personal reasons.
1. You got paid more. (pretty reasonable)
2. Better enviroment. (really reasonable)
3. Better compensation. (absolutely reasonable)

So why do you think company x would owe you anything? You left for a better looking job.

It's not worth an appeal. You decided to abandon one job for another in hopes of greener pastures, which didn't work out, but you can't claim against the first employer whom you abandoned for no reason other than to improve your pay.

You got disqualified because you quit. It is very hard to get unemployment when you quit.

Quitting because your paychecks bounced three weeks out of four, or because you were being sexually harassed and nothing changed after you complained, are valid reasons to quit and get benefits. Quitting because the benefits at the new job are better and/or because the heater was broken are not.

So then what is a good cause? I mean I understand that I quit the first job completely on my own but then got let go of at no fault of my own? You can't go back and draw off your other employers am I understanding that right?

zoober - exactly. Once you leave one job for a valid personal reason, in your case to pursue another job, your relationship with the first company ceases as far as unemployement.

I can tell you that, at least in my prior state of Maryland, that's exactly what will disqualify you. I know that from personal experience.

So not having heat on in the middle of/end of November doesn't pose a personal health risk?

No, actually. You don't catch cold from being cold. And I listed for you a couple of good cause reasons already.
