Uncontested Divorce

My question involves a marriage in the state of: North Carolina

My husband left the U.S. about 3 years ago, I know he's somewhere in South America. I recently filed for divorce by publication or uncontested. My questions is can he find out that we are divorced?

That would be the purpose of the substituted service. Will he in fact find out? We have no way of knowing.
