Stepparent Adoption when Mother and Son Are Permanent Residents, Bio Father Unknown

My question involves adoption law for the State of: Kansas

My wife and I have been married for almost 4 years now and I really want to adopt her son. Both my wife and her son are here in the US as perminant residents without conditions. The biological father is listed as unknown on her son's Philippine birth certificate. What steps need to be taken to get this adoption through the system?

You need an attorney.

Adoption - even a stepparent adoption - is not a do-it-yourself project, and it may be further complicated by there not being a legal father.

oh, ok. I just figured that if I could get through the legallities of immigration without an attorney that I could do this as well. I got my wife and her son here to the States without using one. Thanks, but I'll keep investigating my options.
