Lost My Title and Can't Get a Replacement

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: TN
I paid off my truck several years ago and I am now trying to sell it but i lost my title. so when i went to the dmv and tried to get a new title they said the lein holder never posted it free or paid or whatever so when i tried to contact the place they were out of buisness. what can i do?? i need help here im stuck. i dont have no recipts or anything like that I havent contacted the dmv yet to tell them the place is closed but i figured like all dmv they say it wasnt theyre problem.

Tell us about the lien holder. Are you talking about a lien that was owned by the dealership where you purchased the car? About a bank that has gone out of business? Something else?
