Hi, I live in California 19 years old, and have been going out with my girlfriend for a year and a half now, and she lives in Florida.
She has been wanting to come here to California to be with me for over a year now, but her parents have always said no. So we said that we would just wait until she turns 18 to fly here, so her parents couldnt stop us. (Her parents dont want us together because they are racist BTW)
Well she turns 18 in July, and I was planning on buying the ticket now, so she could leave on her birthday.
But now her family is saying that she cant leave, and are/will take legal actions if I try to get her to come to California.
Her sister said:

"my mom just called, and brittany isn't going anywhere...brittany said to save your money, and that it would be best that you wouldn't contact her anymore. even if you tried to fly her out she wouldn't beable to go cause mom has gotten her suspend from flying out of the state right now and our family in california who works with the state police also said if she is out there they will be sending her back. She got a court order to keep brittany in the state. And actualy there is a thing where you can restrain a minor from leaving especially when she hasn't graduated from high school, Living at home, Military Dependent, Still considered a Full-Time Student in the state of florida she is still considered a minor. If you don't believe me that's fine. Contact Florida State Bar and speak to a paralegal or you can speak to the familys attorney if you would like. but like I said do not contact brittany."
Now I KNOW my my girlfriend Brittany did not say not to contact her. We are in love, and she wants nothing more in this world than to come here with me.
They took away her phone and computer, so I cant get in contact with her. I'm going to ask one her friends to forward the information to her.

Now I'm pretty sure there is no way for them to stop her from coming here when she turns 18. She hasnt done anything wrong, and it's not like they can lock her in a room or anything.

There is no restraining order against me or anything, and I am not a criminal. Both of us are as clean as can be.

And just FYI, she comes from a really bad family, and had a bad childhood with them, so I really think it would be best for her to come with me. And I am more then prepared to take care of her when she comes. I make more than enough money to support us, and I still have my familys support.

Any help would be great.

If you're not in California, even if they have a restraining order against you it has no impact on actions taken exclusively in Florida, unless they register it and seek its enforcement through a Florida court. (Note that an action such as phoning California is not an action which is exclusively in Florida.) If they obtained such an order, you should have been served with a copy.

If she's 18 and she's not under a legal guardianship (e.g., due to mental illness or deficiency) she's an adult and can do as she pleases.

My guess is that it's the language of a high school drop out.

Or, this is even scarier- the language of a high school student who hasn't learned how to write.
