Can I Put an Unlocked Gate on My Alley

My question involves an easement in the state of:kansas
I live in Sylvia ks. population approx 300. I own property on both sides of a alley and wish to put up a unlocked easy access gate at alley entrances. The city has told me I can not because of easements. I will give full rights of entry for those needed. The City owns none of the land in question but there is a easement wich I will honor. I am wishing to do this because of late night traffic.

I can't read the granting language for the easement from here. What in the language makes you believe that the city is wrong and that you are entitled to gate the easement? Please quote the granting language for us.

In the document granting the easement, probably recorded in the chain of title for the servient estate.
