Default What happens if I miss the court date?

I was caught shoplifting on May 24...I haven't received a letter yet. Why? They told me it would take about 2 weeks for the court date to arrive in the mail. I went to the post office to get an address change so all the mail will arrive where I am now. I'm scared that my dad at home may have accidently thrown it away. I'm terrified. I mean, I changed my address, so it should be forwarded to me...

What would happen if I didn't KNOW about the court date? I'm really scared now...what if my dad threw the letter away?

I just want to get this over with, and I don't want my situation to get worse.

    What should I do?

Contact the court to see if they have a record of a case in your name.

There will be a bench warrant under your name. You will be arrested (at home, in the street, over a friend's house, in a store, etc.) when a police officer approach you, knowing it is you.

There will be an arrest warrant put under you name. You will get arrested the next time an officer approach you knowing it is you at your home, job, friend's house, store, on the street, etc. They will place you in jail waiting for the rescheduled court date (usually a pre-trial). It may take 3 weeks for the next court date of the formal hearing. The judge may not want you to leave on bail because he believe you will not appear for court.

I agree with Aaron. And give them your new address.

Usually when an address change takes place, the residence mail gets tied up from 1 - 3 weeks.
