Default Credit Card Debt from 2001

I received both phone calls and letters from a collection agency for an old credit card debt from 2001. I was told if I didn't make a settlement to the current collection agency/law firm they would proceed with garnishing my wages. What should I do? I agreed to send an settlement amount at the end of the month. I am not sure what Georgia Law allows.

They would have to establish a legal right to garnish your wages before a court would issue a garnishment order. That would normally mean that they would have to sue you and get a judgment awarding them money.
