    Default Towing for Street Parking

My question involves towing laws for the State of: California

I parked my motorcycle perpendicularly in a curb(not red or yellow, regular color curb) about 5 feet wide(enough for at least 2 bikes, but not enough for a car), and the lady who lives in the house i parked in front of came out saying I couldn't park there. When I asked why not she said in a hostile manner "Oh you'll see why not", and I got concerned that she might tow my bike the next time I park there. My question is, does she or the towing people have the rights to tow my bike, even though I am not blocking any drive-ways?, and what are the rules and rights of parking in public streets before you get towed?

    Thanks yall.

A private citizen can't tow (or have towed) things from public streets. Even private lots have specific rules that have to be followed. Now towing company that wants to avoid a lot of grief would tow such either.

You should review VC 22500 (which says where you can't park) and VC 22502 (which has the rules on parking along curbs including motorcycles). You can park perpendicular to the curb as long as it's not one of the restricted places (fireplugs, with 15 feet of a FIRE STATION driveway, in front of a driveway, etc...) and you've got one wheel touching the curb.

not knowing the city in which you were, there is also the possibility of local ordinance(s) specifying locations or prohibitions on parking on public streets. while the resident herself cannot have your motorcycle towed as she could if it were on her property, she CAN contact the local law enforcement or parking enforcement agency and make a complaint, which could then result in a citation being issued.

Sounds like San Francisco. Residents like to take possession of public curb space. Always painting fake red curbs to scare people from parking legally in front of their house.
