Unreported Income While Unemployed in New York

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: New York

...Hi all, I worked a part time job while unemployed for about 12 weeks, it was an extra $80 a week which at the time I need as I was only getting $180 a week from unemployment and was struggling to just to pay my rent, at the time I did not report this because I was under the impression that I did not have to report income over $405 a week ( This is my first time unemployed, don't know why I thought that ), anyway, I have requested a hearing and would like to know if I have a chance to get my unemployment benefits back, considering the dire circumstance I am in, I have no money coming in and I am 3 months behind rent now, I apply for jobs and work everyday, but no one is hiring, should I hire a lawyer to help me fight for my IU benefits, any help is appreciated, thanks.

When you fail to report income, you put yourself in a weak position to get additional benefits after you are caught. We cannot predict for you the odds that you will be able to convince UI that yours was an honest mistake.
