My question involves marriage law for the State of: California
I got married last year and am just getting around to changing my name. I went to the social security office and ran into a problem. I was previously married and had changed my name on my social security card, but never went to the DMV. When my divorce papers were finalized the papers to change my name back were never filed (I was unaware of this). When I married my current husband I used my ID with my maiden name, which is what my marriage license reflects. I was told by the social security office that I am required to submit a certified copy of the court papers that state my name was changed back to my maiden name and that my current legal name is my previous married. I am concerned that because my legal name is not that on my marriage license, my marriage is not valid.
