    Default Suspended License, No Insurance

My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: Washington

I was pulled over by a police officer for allegedly speeding. He checked my record, came back and asked me if I was aware that my license was suspended, to which I replied no. He then proceeded to give me a speeding ticket, and a second ticket. This is how he explained the second yellow ticket: "Since your license is suspended, technically you don't have insurance." And he gave me a ticket for no insurance.
To me it doesn't make much sense. I do have a lawyer working on my case, but he is not saying anything straight forward, and I guess I just want that peace of mind. Any experts on here, what is your advice? Is this a legitimate ticket or not quite?

Hypothetical: If you were to call your insurer and ask them "my license is suspended, am I still covered and am insured if I drive?"

My guess the answer will be "no"!

I was driving a relative's car, which DID have insurance coverage. Then does this mean that 'hypothetically' he could have given me a no insurance ticket even if my license was not suspended, since I myself wouldn't be insured either way?...

their insurance most likely covers any licensed driver they allow to drive their vehicle. It likely does not cover non-licensed drivers.

You put your relative in a world of jeopardy by doing what you have. Don't know about Washington but in at least one state, if they knew of the no license, they also committed a crime.
I am not an attorney and any advice is not to be construed as legal advice. You might even want to ignore my advice. Actually, there are plenty of real attorneys that you might want to ignore as well.

Driving with a suspended license is a misdemeanor; You were fortunate he didn't take you in.
