Default How Do I Remove a Felony (Grand Theft 8 Years Ago) from My Background

My question involves setting aside or expungement for the state of: California. I was convicted of grand theft in 2002. I served 3 yrs probation and spent a week and a half in jail. I have no other records of any form. Never have been in trouble before or after the conviction. I never paid back restitution because it is too large for me to afford ($40k). Is there anyway I can have this expunged or set aside so that it is no longer a hindrance in job opportunities or etc?

If you were ordered to pay restitution, I would suspect there is no way to have it expunged. Generally part of allowing an expungement is that all penalties imposed are completed.
