Post Ex Wife Emailing False Statements to Impugn My Career - What Should I Do

My question involves defamation in the state of: OH

Should I take any pro-active action against my ex wife? I am concerned that she is encouraging others to contact my current employer regarding false statements she is making.

The following are paraphrased/edited false statements made by my ex wife in an email to her friends and person(s) of our former place of employment:

Look how sick he is. (link removed)

i wonder how they would feel at his new place of employment if they knew they just hired a wife and child abuser.

My boss my told me he lost his position here because he was stalking me.

My ex and I worked for the same employer. Her boss is someone I worked with. I don't believe he made the statement.

I am not ill, although I have changed in my physical appearance.

I have never been charged or convicted for abuse.

I left the place of employment on positive terms for career advancement and to relocate for a new location/life style. Resignation letters, HR documents, and support from superiors regarding the resignation is very well documented.

About a year ago my ex wife accused me of stalking her. After an interview with the detective and providing supporting evidence to the contrary I was asked by the police if I would like to press harassment charges against my ex. I did not press any charges and I have not had contact from the police regarding stalking since the interview.

Email found its way to me after being sent to several people.

Thanks for taking time to review my post!

What sort of action did you have in mind?

Have you tried asking her to stop?

If all she has done at this point is opine as to your appearance and say some nasty things about you to her friends, with no impact on your work life, it's questionable whether it is worth the cost of attempting to litigate a defamation case, plus such a case could draw a lot of attention to the allegations you're trying to squelch.

Unfortunately I have not been able to speak to my ex wife in three years. The best way I can describe her behavior is angry, hateful, and delusional. I have been questioned by the police regarding false and unsubstantiated claims of stalking, both online and physical. While I lived in the same small town as her we had a chance meeting in public, she claimed this incident was stalking even though it was the first time we met in six months. She made claims to my former employer that I was cyber stalking her by looking at her email. She requested security reviews and that the place of employment look into the matter. I did work in IT, but I worked the customer front end, I do not have the ability, training, ability, or desire to enter the email system. This was an outrageous claim that is false. The requests were denied, but she continues to pursue me even when I have moved 350 miles.
