Separated, Inherited Property, Sold Property - Ex Wants 1/2

My question involves divorce in the State of: CA

7 years ago, I inherited property - a 2 story home my husband & I lived in (for 3 years until our separation). It was actually inherited by myself & another relative who lived on the other side of the home w/ a separate entrance. My husband & I separated 4 years ago & since then he rarely sees the kids, gives no money, & quit his 80k/year job when child support papers got to him. I sold my part of the home to a relative only because it's 2 story & my boys have a disease that makes them unable to walk - and stairs were a problem. After a yr I found a 1 story tiny condo in a safe nice location, but now my husband (still no divorce) says he is going to take 1/2 my condo because it is no longer inherited property because I sold the original house. We haven't divorced due to the $3000 the lawyer quoted & I guess procrastination & not wanting to deal w/ it. Is it true that he could get half my property? thanks.

It sounds like you will benefit from finally hiring that lawyer and getting the divorce behind you; your lawyer can analyze the details of your case in relation to your ex's claim that your inheritance has been transformed into community property.
