    Default Speeding in School Zone

My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: Washington

I was hoping I could find out some more information on how to file for a discovery, and also what some of the meaning on my ticket are I have been lurking the forums for a bit trying to figure out how to handle this. I have decided I am going to contest the ticket. because I am pretty sure I was no where even in the vicinity of this cop and well I just don't feel like paying $189 for a ticket that is bogus. What I am looking for is under the Offense section on the speeding ticket.

I also must say I feel that I was profiled badly in this scenario, I was in a school zone I drive a 2006 Subaru WRX that is bright blue with white 18" wheels also have exhaust but not loud and does not have a large canister car looks stock aside from wheels.

    Violation Statue Code on ticket
    RCW Code 46.61.400
(Can't read this cops hand writing very well)
Vehicle Speed 25 in a 20 (then said he clocked me at 35 but was going to cut me a break)

On the right side of the ticket I have some stuff I can't really make out

    SMD
    L 1379
    L - Z
    N+ 780 (could be a diff letter)
    S 33

Now for my favorite part, screenshot of the portion of the ticket in question and my route that I took, I was under the impression the L 1379 is the distance at which he clocked me if that is the case I would have been on a different street and not even visible.

Pic of part of speeding ticket.

Here is a google map of my path I was taking on the way to work, I wanted to note that if I was clocked from 1379 ft away then it kind of proves my theory that it wouldn't be possible because he was in a alley and I was not even on the straight stretch.

To clarify, the police officer was sitting in a alley on 5th Ave at the far point of the google maps, and the other starting point on 8th ave is around 1/4 mile which means that would be 1320 ft?

The third line is D - 280, is my guess. Distance = 280 feet. Could be a 7, but 780 feet probably doesn't make much more sense than 1,379

L 1379 is likely the LIDAR's record number. You can look its certification at the courthouse, most likely.

Since you have a hand-written ticket, it's more likely it wouldn't be filed within the prescribed 5 days. I'd wait a few days, and then contest this by mail - you'll get a hearing date. Then, use the template posted by blewis to request the copy of the ticket and officer's sworn statement - your court will likely have instructions on how to do that (court should be listed on the ticket).

At this point, you want to get it dismissed on a technicality - for that, you'll need to request discovery and perhaps post it here so people can come up with strategies.

Thank's for the reply's I am planning to mail the ticket off here in a few day's since I received it on 9/10/10.

I think the part that really has me in disbelief of this entire thing, is that X50 radar detector didn't go off I mean I would have known if it were a KA or a Laser alert since my detector is pretty good and that's a really close distance I am aware they can put the radar gun's in a valet mode but I still would have thought that the detector would have alerted.

Your X50 is pretty useless against Lidar despite the manufacturer's claim.

I am trying to find the template that blewis posted, I found a link to a rapid share or filefront I don't recall at the moment but when I tried to download from the link it was not valid, there a better way for me to find this document aside from searching for blewis in all threads?
