Breaking a Lease in New York State

I rented a loft apartment with very large windows facing the street. After I moved in, the city decided to put in VERY bright street lights. My loft is at street level and I now have, bascially, a spot light shining into my main room. The landlord put up curtains to mitigate this but, it is now really ridculously bright. Is this grounds for breaking my lease? If so, how should I go about it?

No, it is not. Truthfully, very little is grounds for breaking a binding contract. Rats left to run amok, black mold, no heat, or other conditions that make the unit completely uninhabitable, yes. Streetlights, no.

Get some blackout shades.
