My question involves criminal law for the state of: New Jersey
Can someone please help me out, A few week's ago I got into a physical altercation with some one who lived in my apartment complex. During the altercation I shoved the girl but she burned and bruised my face. I didnt press charges on her because I didnt want to go through court thing's because I have never done so. I am 18, and have a clean record. Now, because I didnt press charge's or put my hand's back on her she felt the need too keep it going. At the time I was 17 and a week away from my 18th birthday, she is 28 year's old. The day of my Birthday is when the 2nd altercation started. She and a few friend's came too my house trying too fight again she was intoxicated. She struck me and I struck her back with a closed fist, too the face in my defense. My mother ran out and started throwing people out the way, too her it looked like I was being jumped. My mother then called 911, the girl who came too fight me told the cop's me and my mother had jumped her. They put me and my mother down as the suspect's in the police report. The cop's told us our right's too press charges but however, it was Saturday and the court house was not open.
The following day was sunday, It happened again She and a few girl's start trying too intimidate my mother in the parking lot of our complex. I called 911 and went out side too go protect my mother, when attacked by the girl and her friend's. Police came and made me and my mother the victim of the case but still did nothing. I asked if i can get a restraint order but they said I couldnt do so. If she and I never were in a relationship or were family member's. I went too court monday morning and pressed simple assault charges on her and her friend. She then made a assault complaint against me and say's I swung a bat at her and caused bodily injuries too her and that never!!! happened.
I am Scared for my life I have everything too lose I am only 18 what step's do I take too prove my innocent's in court!? I feel so sick because Court is one week away.
