Default Tricked Into Sending Somebody Revealing Pictures of Myself

Alright this is kind of embarrassing to admit. I was on fb and someone sent me a friend request. I'm a male and the person was female. She was really pretty and we started talking. After a few days of talking she asked if I would like to trade pics. I was skeptical because it's the internet and anyone can pretend to be someone else. So I asked her to prove to me who she was and I would consider it. She had a bunch of pictures with hand made signs and my name on it. I figured that was about as legitimate as you could get. So throwing caution to the wind we started to trade pics back and forth. After a few exchanges I noticed she didn't include her face in any of the pictures. I asked why that was and she claimed it was because she didn't want the pictures to be traced back to her.

That they have been exposed before and she didn't want it to happen again. It was a possible story but it just didn't sit right with me. So I requested her to wear certain outfits like blue jeans and a pink shirt, a purple dress etc. Since clearly if she was a fake she wouldn't be able to take such pictures. She kept making excuses for why she couldn't and I began to realize I had been had. It was foolish of me to believe her but her signed pictures were very real so she must be an expert at photoshop or something. I called her out on being fake and she didn't really deny or admit it. She just kept making up excuses. So I went onto her fb and asked if any of the people she was friends with knew her. They all said no and most were guys who said she had also asked them to exchange pictures.

Now I know it was my own stupidity but it there anything I can do about it? I mean she pretended to be someone she wasn't to get revealing pics out of me. I don't want to make a huge deal out of it and pay a lawyer and go crazy but would I have any kind of case or anything?

    Not a chance.

You know all those PSAs running about, telling people that it's really a bad idea to give away personal information/pics on the internet to people you don't know? Pay attention to those.

Exactly how have you been damaged by this exchange of pics?

I don't know about damaged but i've been very embarrassed. They have pics of me which were gained through false methods and said pics can be released which would be pretty humiliating especially to family and friends. What I don't understand is clearly FB keeps a log of everyone's ip addresses and such. Wouldn't that be able to track down this imposter and make them pay for impersonating another person and deception to gain pictures of me under the idea it was a pretty girl?

No, they won't do that without a court order. Have you got about $30K for retaining counsel for that? Provided you could convince an attorney to take the case to begin with, seeing as how you didn't suffer any damages?

Honestly, think outside your boxers. Don't send naked pictures to strangers.

Haha I admitted it was a very stupid idea. It just seems crazy to me that someone can impersonate another, give out all kinds of false information in order to gain something and not be breaking any rules or laws that could hold them accountable.

Accountable for you being foolish enough to embark on something without thoroughly checking it out?

Nope - that one falls solely on you

But you VOLUNTARILY provided the pictures. You had doubts about her validity but you did it ANYWAY.

I'm not denying that I wasn't 100% innocent in the situation. I made a mistake and was foolish. I just don't get how the entire situation would fall on me though. I understand I voluntarily sent the pictures but they were sent because of the other person was being deceptive. I surely take blame for my stupidity but it seems odd that the other person the impostor has no fault or law breakage. That they did nothing wrong by impersonating something else.

Dude, I hate to break this to you....but many of my friends have FB accounts for their pets, for Silly Reasons and to uh...how can I put this?

But you know what? I don't even see this person you're talking about actually having done anything wrong, let alone illegal.

YOU were the one who fell for it. You played the game and got played by an expert...
