How long does the statue of limitations run on traffic tickets or dui's in Mississippi.
For most offenses, the criminal statute of limitations in Mississippi is two years. See Mississippi Code, § 99-1-5. I can't find a statute for traffic tickets - you can search the Mississippi code yourself through the link provided here.
Generally, there isn't a statute of limitations on traffic tickets. Once the ticket is issued, you have to contest it and request a trial or it goes down as a guilty plea. Some states have time limits on the trial but you have to request a dismissal based on the statute. If you don't pay the ticket, eventually they will come after you.
most things should have a statute of limitation. Say you don't pay your ticket or plead guilty. You violation would then be failure to appear in court that would be the new charge in addition to your orginal. However I would think failure to appear in court would have a statute of limitation.
Statutes of limitation apply until charges are initiated. If you fail to appear in court on a charge, it's safe to say that charges have been initiated. In most states, failure to appear in court on a traffic ticket (unless it's a criminal offense) results in default, not in a warrant for failure to appear.
It depends on the state. In many states a traffic ticket is a civil infraction. Failure to appear is a criminal violation for which a warrant can be issued. Some courts will just notify the state to suspend your license, others will issue a bench warrant, others will turn the fine over to a collections agent. Bottom line is that you need to take care of a traffic ticket because your problem will just grow and you could end up spending time in jail.not in a warrant for failure to appear.
