    Default Reckless Driving in Washington

My question involves a reckless driving ticket from the State of: Washington.

I am a Canadian citizen and about 2-3 months ago I was down in Washington and received a reckless driving violation. I was in a rush and I was speeding a little bit while switching across 2 lanes. The officer pulled me over and informed me that I would be receiving a summon to the court in regards with reckless driving.

I finally received the notice and I'm scheduled to appear on Aug 11, which is next week. I have a few questions and hopefully someone here can help me out.

    1. If I admit that I am guilty, what are the possible consequences ?
    2. Should I look for a lawyer? If so, locally in Canada or in Washington?
    3. What steps should I take now?
    4. Any lawyer recommendations?

Thanks in advice for any helpful information/feedback.

Reckless driving is a criminal offense. I suggest consulting a Washington lawyer about getting the charge knocked down to a non-criminal offense. I don't know whether the ICBC exchanges information about traffic offenses with any U.S. states. That's something you may want to explore if you're considering not appearing, as you can expect to end up with a bench warrant and indefinite suspension of your driving privileges in Washington if you don't appear.
Quote Quoting RCW 46.61.500.Reckless driving — Penalty.

    (2) The license or permit to drive or any nonresident privilege of any person convicted of reckless driving shall be suspended by the department for not less than thirty days.
