So long story short, a buddy of mine made two scripts for an online video game called counter strike, and gave a copy of the scripts to a group of people who put the script into their servers, which was intended for only a handful of server admins to have access to. Not too long later the group of people began selling the scripts in server admin packages (for fifteen dollars you could get access to one of the scripts, and for twenty dollars you could have access to both scripts). My friend did not intend nor wish to have his scripts sold. I am almost positive this is a violation of copyright laws but I would really like to be positive about this, I would like to what type of reprimands the people who sold his scripts would face for doing so, and if it comes down to it what he can do about it.
I am in California, my friend is in a different state and the people selling the scripts he created are in different states as well (I can't get info on their state of residence). If you need clarification on anything let me know, its about 1AM here so what seems like a sensible paragraph to me could in fact make no sense at all. Thanks, Dom.
Edit -
I have a feeling this would fall under the same catagory as if someone made a computer program to... lets say speed up a computer and gave this program to a friend to use, but the friend then took the program and sold it online to people who wanted to buy it.
