My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: Virginia
I was on vacation in florida and was justly cited for a suspended licence. My VA tags expired and I was late in renewing them.
The following Monday I went to the DMV paid my fines, and had my licence reinstated.
About a year later I got pulled over at 2am coming home from a movie. I was not violating any laws. The cop was following me because it was late at night, ran my tags and my licence came up as suspended.
When I went to the DMV to straighten this out they said that my florida's licence has been suspended and that I need to show proof that my florida's licence had been reinstated. Even after I got proof of the citation from Florida that showed it was my VA licence they still refused to reinstate my licence. I had to re-file for virginia residency and go through the written and driving test which I passed.
What is causing me pain currently is that my driving record now shows that I had a lapse in licence of over a year which is causing my insurance rate to go up quite considerably, as well as showing multiple infractions for driving on a suspended licence. When I went to court for the VA ticket the case was thrown out because the cop didn't even show, but the infraction is still showing on my record. I am over 30 drive a car that is 15yrs old and no other infractions on my record than the ones mentioned and my insurance is over 1200 per 6 months. When I call they specifically reference the suspension and lapse as why it is so high. Is there any way to get my driving record fixed? The insurance company already said there is nothing to be done until my record is fixed.
