Adoption of My Niece

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: South Carolina

My sister is an unfit mother. I am a mother of two with my husband and myself working full time. My sister has been living with different people and the father of my niece couldn't care less about her. My sister does not work, has no place to live, and is currently going to kentucky without her daughter to be involved in a halfway house for pregnant women who need counseling and help to get on their feet. This is the second time my mom has had to keep my niece for a long period of time and I am not optimistic about her getting her life together and making a future for her current child much less this child she is carrying. I want to adopt my niece who is five but I have no clue how to start or even if it is possible for me to adopt her since there is no proof of neglect or abuse. She just has an unstable life and I want to provide better for her.

The easiest way would be for your niece's parents to agree to your adoption of her.

Failing that, without any proof of neglect or abuse you have absolutely no chance whatsoever.

Why not give Mom a chance to get back on her feet?

At least she's showing willing.
