Default Blocked from Joint Account by Parents

I am not sure where I should post this inquiry, but I need advice/ help.

I am a twenty year old, residing in Michigan. I have an account of investments at merryl lynch. My grandparents started said account for me, with the promise of me using it once I had grown up/graduated. I have graduated as a mechanic, and am happy with the education that I have. When I turned 18 my parents forced me to sign a form allowing their names to be put on the account, so they could steer my investments in a profitable direction.

This last year I had access to my account via a debt card, and used it for every day expenses.

After a while of using it, my parents deemed that I was "abusing" my account, and blocked me from the account, in essence "freezing it"...

A month ago my parents kicked me out of their house (over non reltated issues) and will not speak with me.

I would like to remove them from my account and to have access to my investments.

What is suggested that I do??? My parents have a personal family lawyer, and try to intimidate people with force and verbal threats. I would, needless to say, like to do this as easily as possible. Having a sit down with my parents is out of thequestion.

speak with the ML account manager. If the account is yours, you should be able to alter it as you desire. Honestly it doesn't sound like it is in your name or you have allowed your parents to be conservator for you. If they are listed as conservator, you would likely have to go to court to have them removed.

I am not sure what my parents are in regards to the account. I have talked with my portfolio advisor at ml and was told I'd have to get my parents and myself to sign a letter stating we agreed to removed them from my account.

The advisor said I had to do that because of the form I signed when I was 18, I don't remember what the form was even entitled unfortunately. What type of lawyer would I need to seek to proceed?

when I came back to this, I noticed in the title you stated "joint account". If so, you would not be able to remove the joint owners but why you cannot access your money is beyond me unless the account requires all joint owners to approve a withdrawal.

type of attorney: best guess would be a general practice attorney. Due to the situation, one that deals with family law maybe.

In regards to the title on the posting, I had not actually put a title on my post aside from "help" I think maybe a moderator edited the title, but I am unsure.

I will be contacting a general practice family attorney tomorrow to see where I stand in this issue.
