Ex-Boyfriend Will Not Return Property

My question involves personal property located in the State of: MASSACHUSSETS

My Ex-boyfriend refuses to return the rest of my belongings. After our break-up I advised him that I wanted my things back. He eventually returned 3 articles of clothing, but none of my other things which consist of video game system and games, cell phones, and a sweater. This property was not given as a gift, just there at his shelter for use since I was there almost everyday. I have all my reciepts to prove it is mine. Would this be considered theft?? Or do I have to go through the courts?
