H4 Extension Along with H1b Extension

Hi,
My employer applied for an extension (on April 2010) for my H1B after 6 years to recapture the period that I was outside of US (about 10 months). The lawyer also applied for H4 extension along with that for my dependents.
Our visa is expiring in Aug 2010 along with the I-94.

The extension request got approved and I received a copy of the H4 approval last week (Jun 2010) with validity only up to Aug 2010. Not sure how long my H1 got extended as I haven't received the H1 approval notice yet.

Question 1. Assuming my H1 gets extended for a year; can I apply again for the extension of H4 for my dependents based on my newly approved H1? What are other options?
Question 2. Is it possible that my H1 also gets extended only up to august 2010? If yes and assuming it does, can I apply again for the extension immediately for H1 and H4 together?
What are my options?

If you are in status on an H1-B visa, your dependents should continue ot qualify for H4 status.

It would very much make sense to request H4 extensions at the same time you request your H1-B extension. It's not automatic.
